Pakistan Court Halts Deportation of Afghan Cancer Patient for 30 Days

DID Press: The Peshawar High Court has suspended the detention and deportation of an Afghan cancer patient and his family for 30 days, citing the patient’s critical medical condition and ongoing treatment.

In a recent ruling, the court ordered Pakistani authorities to refrain from arresting or deporting Anargul, an Afghan national undergoing cancer treatment, and his family until the expiry of the one-month suspension.

According to Dawn, the court instructed relevant authorities to take no action against the family during this period. The ruling states that, given Anargul’s serious health condition and ongoing chemotherapy, he should apply for a medical visa or another legal form of residency in Pakistan.

The patient’s lawyer told the court that his client had previously lived in Swat under a Proof of Registration (PoR) card but encountered legal difficulties after the document expired.

The lawyer also warned that interrupting Anargul’s cancer treatment could have severe and potentially irreversible consequences for his health.

The court’s decision comes as Pakistan continues to intensify its campaign to deport undocumented foreign nationals, including large numbers of Afghan migrants.
