Second Helmand River Bridge Project Breaks Ground

DID Press: Construction has begun on a 337-meter bridge over the Helmand River in Girishk district of Helmand Province, marking the start of a major infrastructure project aimed at improving transport links and easing traffic on one of Afghanistan’s busiest highways.

According to Taliban authorities, the bridge will span 337 meters in length and 12 meters in width, with a construction cost of AFN 270 million. The project is being implemented by the Taliban’s Directorate of Public Works in Helmand with funding from the Ministry of Public Works.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Taliban district governor of Girishk said the new bridge is expected to reduce congestion on the existing crossing along the Kandahar–Herat Highway while facilitating the movement of residents, commercial traffic, and goods.

The bridge will serve as the second road crossing over the Helmand River in Girishk and is intended to strengthen regional transport connectivity and improve access along one of Afghanistan’s key national road corridors.
