Freedom Front Claims Taliban Offensive Repelled in Badakhshan

DID Press: Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) says its fighters repelled multiple Taliban attacks in Zebak district of Badakhshan province before launching a counteroffensive that forced Taliban forces to retreat, as fighting in the area entered its second consecutive week.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Freedom Front said clashes began at around 10:00 p.m. Monday when Taliban forces launched several attacks on its positions. The group claimed its fighters later counterattacked from two directions, killing five Taliban members and wounding four others, while reporting no casualties among its own forces.

Local sources also confirmed that heavy fighting erupted again on Monday evening in Zebak, saying the clashes lasted for several hours after Taliban forces initiated the assault. According to the sources, Taliban units withdrew from some positions after sustaining casualties.

The casualty figures and battlefield claims made by the Freedom Front have not been independently verified, and the Taliban have not publicly commented on the reported fighting.

The clashes in Zebak have continued for nearly a week. In recent days, the Freedom Front has released videos claiming to have seized several Taliban outposts in the district.

Local sources further said the Taliban have deployed additional ground forces and air assets to reinforce their positions since the fighting began. Despite those reinforcements, tensions remain high and hostilities continue in the district.
