Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan Agree to Launch Trilateral Transport Corridor

DID Press: Tajikistan, Iran and Afghanistan have signed an agreement to establish a trilateral road transport corridor aimed at facilitating cargo movement and expanding regional economic cooperation, according to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Transport.

A Tajik delegation led by Shoista Saidmurodzoda traveled to Mashhad for talks with Iranian and Afghan officials, where discussions focused on strengthening regional transit links, activating international transport corridors and expanding trade between the three countries.

The parties signed a trilateral agreement establishing the road corridor and agreed that a pilot transport operation will be conducted within the next month to assess customs procedures, border coordination and operational logistics.

The three countries also agreed to establish a permanent joint working group tasked with addressing implementation challenges, monitoring progress and proposing measures to further develop the corridor. Planned initiatives include upgrading border infrastructure, reducing truck waiting times and strengthening transport insurance mechanisms.

Officials also discussed the possibility of extending the corridor to additional markets in Central Asia and China. The next trilateral meeting is scheduled to take place in Kabul in late October or early November 2026.
