Taliban: Over AFN 10B Invested in Afghanistan’s Mining Sector Last Year

DID Press: Taliban government says more than AFN 10 billion (approximately 10 billion Afghanis) was invested in Afghanistan’s mining sector during the 1447 Hijri lunar year, while technical teams identified dozens of new mineral deposits across the country.

Speaking at the “Government in the Mirror of the Media” program, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said investment had been directed toward both small- and large-scale mining projects.

According to Mujahid, technical teams from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum of Afghanistan identified and registered 45 new mining sites in 27 provinces. He said the newly discovered deposits will undergo further technical assessments before being offered for investment and commercial extraction.

Mujahid also stated that mining contracts created more than 50,000 direct jobs over the past year. He added that work is continuing on a revised mining law aimed at establishing a more structured legal framework for mineral extraction, investment and sector management.

The Taliban has identified the mining industry as a key pillar of its economic strategy, seeking to attract investment and increase domestic revenue through the development of Afghanistan’s vast untapped mineral resources.
