$30 Million Pharmaceutical Plant Opens in Afghanistan’s Herat Province

DID Press: A pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Deem Pharma, has opened in Herat province with a total investment of $30 million, in a ceremony attended by the Taliban’s acting public health minister.

Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali, the Taliban’s public health minister, said the establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities could help Afghanistan move toward greater self-sufficiency while creating more employment opportunities for young people.

Jalali said Afghanistan has skilled professionals but stressed that access to quality medicines is essential for improving healthcare services. He urged investors to expand investment in domestic pharmaceutical production to strengthen the country’s economy.

Mohammad Hossein Mohammadi, Deem Pharma’s communications director, said the first phase of the plant was completed with an investment of $15 million, while construction of the second phase, involving another $15 million, has also begun.

The company is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 40 million bottles of oral liquids and 1 billion tablets and capsules.

Company officials said Deem Pharma’s products will be manufactured in accordance with international standards, with the aim of meeting domestic demand for quality medicines.

The company is expected to create direct and indirect employment for around 2,000 people.
