DID Press: A powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, killing at least 132 people and injuring another 570, according to local reports.
Following the earthquake, a red-level emergency alert was declared in 32 cities, while extensive damage was reported across affected areas.
According to the Colombian Geological Service, the earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday (August 10) and was the strongest earthquake to hit the country in a decade. The epicenter was recorded near San José del Palmar in Chocó Department.
Colombian President said the cities of Pereira and Manizales were among the areas hardest hit by the disaster.
Local authorities have launched rescue operations and begun assessing the extent of the damage. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as search and rescue efforts continue.
