UNAMA released its recent findings on airstrike carried out on Kunduz’s Dasht-e Archi district on 2 April by the Afghanistan Security Forces, killing 36 civilians and wounding 71 others.
According to a statement released by the office of UNAMA, 107 civilians were killed or wounded in this airstrike.

According to the report, from those killed and wounded in the airstrikes, 81 are children.

The report, however, notes that UNAMA received additional credible information indicating higher figures.
The report is based on more than 90 interviews with victims, witnesses, government officials and medical personnel; three large community consultations in Kunduz city; and accounts received during a fact-finding mission to the site of the attack, UNAMA said in a statement.

According to the report, the government forces used rockets and heavy machinegun fire on and around a religious gathering, killing and injuring civilians, the majority of whom were children.

On the other hand, the entity makes several recommendations to government, including conducting a review of military policies to ensure compliance with the international humanitarian law to protect civilians at all times.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense on 3 April vowed that the Security Forces had targeted a gathering of Taliban group where a number of Quetta Council members were present as well.
