Taliban: Opposition Is Fragmented, Political Participation Would Destabilize Afghanistan

DID Press: Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has rejected any political solution involving opposition groups, saying they have different objectives and lack unity.

He warned that allowing opposition factions to participate in government could return Afghanistan to the instability of the past.Mujahid said in his latest remarks that groups opposed to the Taliban lack cohesion and are pursuing separate agendas.

Rejecting political negotiations and the participation of opposition groups in the country’s power structure, he said past experience had shown that their involvement in government could push Afghanistan back into previous crises.

Mujahid also dismissed reports of unrest in Badakhshan province and activities by dissatisfied commanders as “enemy propaganda,” insisting that the province remains calm. He said the reported capture of Yaftal district by the Sepah-e-Mihan Front was only a “minor threat” that was contained within hours.

On tensions with Pakistan, the Taliban spokesman blamed the situation on a “small military group” and said the Taliban do not want a confrontation with Islamabad.

He added that Afghanistan’s territory would not be allowed to be used against other countries.
