India Seeks to Expand Historic Ties With Afghanistan

DID Press: India’s Ministry of External Affairs has said New Delhi is working to expand its historic and longstanding relations with Afghanistan across various areas.

Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, said at a press briefing that recent interactions between the two countries have helped strengthen cooperation in development, trade and regional connectivity.

He added that India and Afghanistan have historic and longstanding relations, and New Delhi will work to expand these ties across various sectors.

According to Jaiswal, multiple meetings and contacts between officials from the two countries have taken place over the past year, contributing to increased bilateral cooperation.

Recent meetings have also addressed issues including humanitarian assistance, development cooperation, trade, education, healthcare and regional connectivity.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs also stressed the importance of regional security, saying that Afghan territory should not be used for activities against any other country.
