Some sources claim she stepped down just 24 hours after being on board a plane that was believed to face a potential attack, after reportedly feeling that she had been used as “bait.”
Brian Krassenstein, a U.S. political commentator, wrote in response to Leavitt’s resignation that she decided to leave her position after realizing that Trump had left her on a plane that the president believed could potentially be targeted in an attack.
Doug Mills, a New York Times photographer who was also aboard the aircraft, described the move as “concerning,” saying passengers were placed in a situation without being informed of the circumstances, potentially turning them into “bait.”
It was previously announced that Leavitt was leaving the administration to spend more time with her family and her newborn child. However, recent reports have offered a different account of the circumstances surrounding her resignation.
Meanwhile, Politico reported that the White House does not urgently need to replace its press secretary, as Trump frequently speaks directly with reporters and often shapes the news cycle himself. A senior administration official said: “The president is his own messenger.”
Despite this, contacts have reportedly been made with potential candidates, although aides emphasized that Trump is in “no rush” to fill the position.
