Syrian FM to Visit Pakistan in First Trip in Nearly Two Decades

DID Press: Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani is set to visit Islamabad on Wednesday for his first trip to Pakistan in nearly two decades.

During his two-day visit, al-Shibani is expected to meet Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to reports.

The visit comes as Syria seeks to rebuild and strengthen its diplomatic, political and economic ties with regional countries following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government in December 2024.

Pakistan views the visit as an opportunity to strengthen its longstanding relations with Syria, which have historically included political, defense and educational cooperation.
