Blast in Kabul’s Dasht-e Barchi, Casualties Remain Unclear

DID Press: A blast was heard in the Dasht-e Barchi area of western Kabul on Saturday evening, with local sources saying the incident occurred near a bakery station opposite the “Peywand” market and was caused by a hand grenade.Witnesses said the grenade struck a civilian vehicle, after which Taliban forces cordoned off the area.

No official details have yet been released on possible casualties or damage, and Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident.Dasht-e Barchi, a predominantly Shiite area, has been repeatedly targeted by deadly attacks in recent years.

Just days earlier, on Aug. 17, a blast near the private “Shama-e Hedayat” school in the same area injured dozens of children and prompted widespread reactions from international organizations.

The latest blast, coming shortly after the attack on Shama-e Hedayat school, has renewed concerns over the Taliban’s ability to ensure security in western Kabul.
