German FM Condemns Ben-Gvir, Backs Possible EU Sanctions on Isreal

DID Press: German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has condemned recent remarks by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and said the European Union could consider imposing additional sanctions on Israel over its policies in the Palestinian territories.

Wadephul said Berlin supports previous EU sanctions targeting individuals and organizations linked to Israeli settlers and indicated that further measures could also be considered.

The comments came after Ben-Gvir made controversial remarks calling for targeted operations against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, prompting strong criticism from several German politicians and calls for additional European sanctions against him.

Wadephul’s remarks signal that the possibility of expanding EU punitive measures against Israel remains under discussion, amid growing European criticism of Israeli policies toward Palestinians.
