DID Press: The Telegraph reported that a British power plant was hit by an “unprecedented” cyberattack allegedly carried out by hackers linked to Iran, forcing the facility offline for four days.
According to the British newspaper, the incident occurred in July and may mark the first known case in which Iran-linked hackers successfully disrupted an energy facility in the United Kingdom.
British officials reportedly consider the incident the most successful cyberattack of its kind against the country’s critical infrastructure. The targeted power plant has not been identified publicly due to security concerns.
The report said the incident occurred around the same time as a series of cyberattacks targeting water infrastructure in the United States, affecting 12 states and raising concerns at the White House.
British authorities have not publicly attributed the attack to the Iranian government, and the identity of the facility remains undisclosed.
