Afghanistan-Iran Rail Trade Surges Ninefold

DID Press: Rail freight between Afghanistan and Iran has increased sharply, according to the Iranian Embassy in Kabul.

According to Iranian Railways, the volume of goods transported to Afghanistan has risen from less than 15,000 tonnes annually to around 130,000 tonnes per month.

Iranian railway authorities forecast that freight volumes on the Iran-Afghanistan rail route could reach approximately 1.5 million tonnes annually.

The increase highlights the growing importance of rail connectivity between the two countries for cross-border trade and regional transit.
