New $10 Million Scanners Being Installed at Afghanistan-Iran Border

DID Press: Work is continuing on a nearly $10 million project to install new scanners at the Islam Qala border crossing in Afghanistan’s western Herat province, local officials said.

According to Taliban officials, the project aims to strengthen the technical capacity of the border crossing and improve the inspection and monitoring of imported and exported goods.

The installation of the new scanning systems is part of broader development efforts at Islam Qala, one of Afghanistan’s key commercial crossings with Iran.

The project is expected to improve customs transparency, help curb smuggling and facilitate legitimate trade between Afghanistan and Iran.
