DID Press: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a change in U.S. policy during a meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, stressing the need for Washington to honor the terms of the Islamabad understanding.
Pezeshkian said reliance on force and pressure would not resolve regional disputes and urged Washington to revise its approach based on international law. He identified adherence to the Islamabad understanding, unity among Muslim countries and Iran’s national resilience as key factors in countering external pressure and what he described as foreign plots.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, separately met with Munir and accused the United States of failing to uphold its commitments under the Islamabad understanding.
Ghalibaf said the obligations of both sides were clear and argued that Washington’s actions had undermined stability and created further grounds for mistrust. He added that Iran would not yield to pressure and called on the United States to honor its commitments.
Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also met with Munir and discussed Iran’s security management in the Strait of Hormuz and the need for concrete U.S. action to meet the conditions of the understanding. Rezaei said a change in Washington’s conduct was necessary for regional stability.
Munir, in his meetings with the Iranian officials, reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to play a facilitating role, pursue diplomatic channels and strengthen what he described as “brotherly relations” with Iran. He also highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two countries as an asset for navigating the current regional challenges.
