Afghanistan’s Bank Deposits Climb to Nearly $3 Billion

DID Press: Public savings held in Afghanistan’s banking system have risen to nearly $3 billion, the Afghanistan Banks Association said, pointing to growing public confidence in the country’s financial sector.

Najibullah Amiri, head of the Afghanistan Banks Association, said the increase in deposits reflected a strengthening level of trust among citizens in the banking system. He said banks were working to provide more standardized services and further improve their operations.

Da Afghanistan Bank, the country’s central bank, has also said it continues to oversee banking services and promote improvements in the quality and accessibility of financial services. The bank has emphasized financial inclusion and encouraged citizens to use formal banking channels for deposits and transactions.

Economic analysts say sustained public confidence will depend on improving banking standards, simplifying procedures and expanding investment and financial opportunities.

A stronger banking sector could help mobilize more household savings, increase the circulation of capital and support broader economic activity in Afghanistan.
