DID Press: Iran has urged the United Nations Security Council to condemn recent U.S. military strikes on southern Iran, including an attack on a residential home hosting a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak, Hormozgan province, which Tehran described as a violation of international law and a war crime.

In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the president of the Security Council, Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires to the UN, said U.S. forces carried out a new wave of strikes against several southern Iranian cities on September 1, 2026.
Darzi said a residential house in Kuhestak, in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, was hit while a wedding celebration was taking place there. According to Iran’s account, five civilians, including a four-year-old child, were killed and more than 70 others were injured. Iranian officials have described the incident as a war crime.
Iranian officials say the latest U.S. strikes across southern Iran killed at least 18 people and wounded 108 others. The United States has said it does not target civilians, while U.S. Central Command said it was reviewing reports concerning the Kuhestak incident.
Darzi said the Kuhestak attack was part of what Tehran described as a broader pattern of attacks since February 28 against civilian areas and critical infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, airports, residential areas, bridges, roads and railway facilities.
He also cited the February 28 strike on a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province. According to the Iranian account contained in the letter, more than 168 students, mostly girls aged between seven and 12, as well as teachers and school staff, were killed, while another 110 people were injured.
Iran called on the Security Council to condemn the attacks, specifically address the Kuhestak incident, include the reported attacks on Minab and Kuhestak in future UN reports on civilian protection, and hold the United States accountable for material and moral damages.
Darzi also said Tehran considers its retaliatory military actions to fall within what Iran describes as its inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, warning that Iran would respond decisively and proportionately to further military attacks against its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
