Pakistan Recalls Ambassador From Kabul for Consultations

DID Press: Pakistan has recalled its ambassador to Kabul, Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, to Islamabad for consultations amid growing concerns over security developments in Afghanistan.

After returning to Islamabad, Nizamani met with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. The two discussed regional developments, the security situation and issues related to Pakistan’s interests.Dar stressed the need to closely monitor regional developments, particularly issues affecting peace and security.

The move comes as relations between Kabul and Islamabad have deteriorated in recent months amid security and border tensions, disputes over the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and disruptions at key trade crossings.

Islamabad accuses the Taliban of providing safe havens to groups opposed to Pakistan, allegations the Taliban deny, saying Pakistan’s security problems are an internal matter.
