Afghanistan Signs $13.8M in Contracts to Expand Amu Darya Oil Operations

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Taliban-run Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has signed two contracts worth a combined $13.8 million with TNG Tatarstan, a company based in Russia’s Tatarstan region, for monitoring and consultancy services in the Amu Darya oil basin and construction of a Flexible Production Facility (FPF) in the Zamrud Sai block.

Under the first contract, valued at approximately $2.8 million, TNG Tatarstan will provide monitoring and consultancy services for the Amu Darya oil basin for one year. The Taliban ministry said the project is intended to increase oil extraction capacity and strengthen related activities in the basin.

A second contract, valued at $11 million, covers the design, installation and related work for the first phase of an FPF facility in the Zamrud Sai block. According to the ministry, construction is expected to take eight months.

Once completed, the facility is expected to have the capacity to process up to 2,000 metric tons of oil per day, according to the ministry.

The agreement follows earlier discussions between TNG representatives and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum on cooperation in the Amu Darya basin and the rehabilitation of oil facilities in the Angot, Qashqari and Zamrud Sai areas.
