Iran, Afghanistan Set $10 Billion Trade Target

DID Press: Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan said Tehran and Kabul aim to increase bilateral trade from around $4 billion to $10 billion.Alireza Bikdeli said expanding border crossings, roads and railway networks would be key to achieving the target, with much of the required infrastructure already under development.

He said growing cooperation in trade, transit, logistics and transportation has entered a new phase.Bikdeli also said the Khaf-Herat railway has transported nearly 1.5 million tonnes of goods annually during its roughly two years of operation—about nine times the initial forecast.

He added that the Farah-Mahirud road, which is nearing completion, could become a major economic and transit route, linking Iran through Farah province to southern and eastern Afghanistan and Kabul.
