Durrani Calls Expulsion of Afghan Medical Students from Pakistan “Shocking”

DID Press: Asif Durrani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to Afghanistan, has described Pakistan’s decision to expel Afghan medical students as “shocking” and called for the decision to be reconsidered.

Durrani, referring specifically to female students, said they had worked hard to pursue their education despite numerous difficulties and that expelling them was not merely an administrative matter but also a humanitarian and moral issue.

He stressed that for these students, education could be their only path toward a dignified future, and that returning to Afghanistan could destroy years of effort and hope of becoming doctors.

Durrani urged the Pakistani government not to punish the students for circumstances beyond their control, saying: “Let them study, become doctors and serve their people.” He called for the decision to be revoked and for Afghan students to be allowed to continue their education.

Pakistan on the previous day ordered Afghan medical students studying in the country to leave Pakistan within 24 hours.
