Pashtun National Jirga Calls for Afghan Students to Continue Studies in Pakistan

DID Press: Pashtun National Jirga has called on the Pakistani government to reverse its decision to expel Afghan students from universities and hostels and allow them to continue their education in the country.

In a post on its X account, the jirga described Pakistan’s decision as a disregard for human rights and dignity, saying Afghan students had committed no violations and had entered Pakistani universities through legal channels and scholarship programs.

The Pashtun National Jirga said forcing Afghan students to abandon their education was an “open sign of cruelty, hostility and arrogance” and urged Islamabad to allow them to complete their studies.

The call comes as Pakistan’s recent directive has affected Afghan students enrolled in medical and dental programs. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has instructed institutions to facilitate the return of Afghan students already enrolled in such programs, while new admissions and placements have also been suspended.
