DID Press: Arab media outlets have reported that Yemen’s armed forces, after pushing back Saudi-backed forces, have taken control of the strategic port of Mokha on Yemen’s western coast overlooking the Red Sea.

According to the reports, Ansarullah’s control of the western coast and Mokha port could strengthen the group’s position in the region’s maritime balance. The port is located near the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s key routes for trade and energy shipments.
Control of the area could also provide Ansarullah with an important bargaining lever in future political developments and negotiations, while allowing the group to expand its maritime and missile capabilities along Yemen’s western coast.
Mokha is one of Yemen’s important ports on the Red Sea. Its geographic location, particularly its proximity to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, gives the area significant strategic importance.
