DID Press: Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, says Asian countries resisted pressure from Western states to limit purchases of Russian energy and pursued their energy policies based on their national interests and historical experience.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, Zakharova said: “Asian countries made a considered decision and prevented the destabilizing influence of certain Western countries and their institutions on their energy policies.”
Referring to developments in February and March 2026, she said those events demonstrated that energy cooperation should not become an arena for political disputes.
“Energy cooperation is so important that it must not be destabilized, because it affects every area of life and should be kept away from political games,” the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
