Muttaqi Calls Afghan Girls’ Education Ban “Really a Problem”

DID Press: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, has acknowledged that the exclusion of Afghan girls from secondary and higher education is “really a problem,” saying the Taliban government will review the issue.

Muttaqi claimed that the human rights situation in Afghanistan has become “much better” compared with the period of the former republic and the Soviet presence. He also dismissed international sanctions against the Taliban as unjustified.

Amir Khan Muttaqi also said the Taliban’s economic and political cooperation with regional countries was expanding and that relations with European countries had made progress.

He described Russia’s formal recognition of the Taliban as a positive development and said it demonstrated the expansion of the Taliban government’s foreign relations.
