Afghanistan Issues Electronic ID Cards to 18.3 Million Citizens

DID Press: Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Statistics and Information has announced that nearly 18.3 million citizens have received electronic national identity cards since the distribution process began.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Taliban-run authority said 827,060 electronic ID cards were distributed across Afghanistan during the first six months of the current year.

Of the cards issued during this period, 600,546 were issued to men and 226,514 to women.

Kabul recorded the highest number of electronic ID cards issued, with 232,696, followed by Herat with 74,180, Nangarhar with 71,825, Kandahar with 47,260, and Balkh with 36,275.

The authority said electronic ID services are currently provided through 87 electronic ID and Asan-Khedmat distribution centers across Afghanistan. It added that an Asan-Khedmat center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, also provides services to Afghan citizens.

The figures are attributed to Afghanistan’s General Directorate of Statistics and Information. The authority’s official information confirms that electronic Tazkira services are provided through dedicated registration and distribution centers.
