Crawford said Sunday that diesel prices are particularly important because a large part of the U.S. supply chain depends on the fuel.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price of diesel was about $6.50 per gallon. AAA’s latest data put the average at $6.47 per gallon, compared with $5.62 a month earlier and $3.69 a year earlier.
The increase comes as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea has declined amid restrictions and disruptions linked to regional conflicts.
U.S. President Donald Trump this week backed a possible ban on diesel exports. However, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said such a policy would “definitely not work,” according to reports. Wright is the current U.S. secretary of energy.
