Freedom Front Claims Three Taliban Members Killed in Faizabad Attack

DID Press: Afghanistan’s Freedom Front said it attacked a vehicle carrying Taliban members in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province, killing at least three members of the group and wounding two others.

In a statement, the group said the attack took place on Monday, October 28, near the Taliban-run Directorate of Mines in Faizabad.Local sources said an explosion occurred earlier Monday in the Jalghar area of Faizabad, targeting a Toyota Hilux vehicle.

Images circulating online showed a column of smoke rising from a road near the mountains.Some local sources said the intended target was Mullah Abdul Mansour, the Taliban commander of the group’s Seventh District in Faizabad, and that he survived the incident.

The Freedom Front did not identify the intended target.Sources said ambulances were dispatched to the scene after the explosion to transport casualties. Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.Badakhshan has witnessed increased security incidents, Taliban operations and arrests of people accused of cooperating with armed opposition groups in recent months.

Clashes between Taliban forces and the Freedom Front have also increased in several northern and northeastern provinces in recent days.
