More Than 53,000 Vehicles in Afghanistan Equipped With GPS Trackers

DID Press: Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation says 53,270 passenger and freight vehicles across the country have so far been equipped with GPS tracking devices.

The ministry said the installation of GPS trackers on passenger and cargo vehicles is continuing nationwide. It said 23 private companies are currently involved in installing the tracking systems. The ministry confirmed on September 28 that the number of contracted private companies had reached 23.

According to the ministry, installing tracking devices has been made mandatory for passenger vehicles operating on intercity routes.

Officials say the programme is intended to help reduce traffic accidents, improve monitoring of vehicles and increase passenger safety.

The ministry has previously said the tracking system allows authorities to monitor vehicles continuously, including their location, routes and other operational information.
