Pak Army Holds Taliban Responsible for Consequences of Alleged Terrorism Support

DID Press: Pakistan’s military has accused the Taliban of facilitating terrorism and reaffirmed Islamabad’s stated right to self-defence and to take targeted action against threats it says originate from Afghanistan.

Senior Pakistani military commanders reviewed the country’s security situation and alleged terrorist threats during the 277th Corps Commanders’ Conference, chaired by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

According to Pakistan’s military, the commanders reaffirmed the country’s right to self-defence and targeted action against terrorism emanating from Afghanistan. The statement said the Taliban leadership would be responsible for the consequences of what Pakistan described as facilitating terrorism on behalf of India. The allegation was made by Pakistan’s military and has not been independently established.

The commanders also stressed maintaining a high level of operational readiness and praised intelligence-based counterterrorism operations carried out by Pakistani security agencies.

The military further called for security measures to be accompanied by civilian initiatives, including strengthening police capabilities, disrupting links between terrorism and organized crime, and increasing engagement with local communities.

The statements come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, with Islamabad accusing the Taliban authorities of allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan territory. The Taliban government has rejected such accusations. Recent Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan have further escalated tensions between the two sides.
