Postol: Israeli Military Is on the Verge of Collapse

DID Press: Theodore Postol, professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a former Pentagon adviser, has criticized the performance of Israel’s leadership, saying the Israeli military is facing an extremely difficult situation and is on the verge of collapse.

Speaking to the Going Underground program, Postol said Israel is the biggest nuclear threat in the Middle East and argued that the country’s leadership has placed its military in a situation in which military commanders have expressed concerns about continuing the war.

He added that the Israeli military is facing mounting troop casualties and that, given the limited size of the territory under Israel’s control, maintaining control over areas with hostile populations has become increasingly difficult for the country.

The MIT professor also discussed Iran’s missile capabilities, saying that his previous assessments of the potential damage caused by Iranian missile attacks had been incorrect. According to Postol, a new generation of Iranian ballistic missiles has greater capability, accuracy and destructive power, with some of them being difficult to intercept.

Postol further stressed that Israel’s air-defense systems have had limited effectiveness against Iranian ballistic missiles and warned that continued escalation could place unprecedented military and security pressure on Israel.

He warned that if the conflict escalates, the damage inflicted on Israel could be extensive, potentially making the question of the country’s survival a serious issue.
