Taliban: Pakistani Military Circles Are Obstructing Talks With Afghanistan

DID Press: Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, has accused some Pakistani military circles of obstructing negotiations and making it more difficult to resolve disputes between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Mujahid criticised what he described as the role of certain military factions in prolonging tensions between the neighbouring countries, saying they had repeatedly prevented progress in talks.

He said some groups within Pakistan supported resolving differences through negotiations, but alleged that other military circles were creating obstacles to an understanding between Kabul and Islamabad.

Mujahid also said the Taliban administration did not interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs and would not allow Afghan territory to be used to pose security threats against Pakistan or other countries.

He added that the Afghan authorities had taken effective measures to address security concerns, but alleged that some circles in Pakistan continued to pursue policies that fuelled tensions.

The statements come amid continuing disagreements between Kabul and Islamabad over cross-border militancy and security. Pakistan has accused the Taliban administration of allowing militant groups to operate from Afghan territory, while the Taliban deny the allegations and have called for disputes to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
