DID Press: Afghanistan’s national futsal team finished as runners-up at the 2026 Futsal Nations Cup in Brazil after losing 6–0 to the host nation in Sunday’s final.
The match was played on October 18, 2026, at the Max Rosenmann Sports Hall in São José dos Pinhais, in Brazil’s Paraná state. Brazil capitalised on its scoring opportunities to defeat Afghanistan and claim its third title in the tournament’s history.
Fabinho scored twice for Brazil, while Leandro Lino, Cleber, Serginho and Rufino each scored once. Brazil had previously won the competition in 2023 and 2025.
Afghanistan reached the final after completing the group stage unbeaten. The team drew 0–0 with Japan, defeated Peru 3–0 and secured a place in the final with a 4–2 victory over Cape Verde in the semi-finals.
Despite the heavy defeat in the final, Afghanistan’s run to the championship match marked a significant achievement for the national futsal team on the international stage.
