Iran Calls for Railway Link from Herat to Uzbekistan’s Border
DID Press: Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development has proposed extending the railway line from Herat in western Afghanistan to the border near Termez in Uzbekistan, emphasising the importance of connecting the route to the railway networks of Central Asia and China.

Farzaneh Sadegh, Iran’s minister of roads and urban development, said the proposed extension could facilitate greater movement of goods among regional countries and improve their access to open waters.
She also expressed support for establishing a trilateral corridor involving Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, describing Iran’s Chabahar Port as an important route for transporting goods from Afghanistan and Central Asia to international markets.
According to Sadegh, connecting regional railway routes with the transport networks of Central Asia and China could increase the region’s transit capacity and expand trade opportunities.
The Trans-Afghan Corridor meeting was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, with the participation of transport ministers from Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan, as well as a delegation from Afghanistan’s Taliban administration.
