China Calls for Stronger Security Cooperation with Tajikistan over Afghanistan-Related Threats
DID Press: Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for stronger security and intelligence cooperation between China and Tajikistan to counter terrorism, extremism and separatism, emphasizing the need to protect Chinese citizens and companies operating in Tajikistan.

Li made the remarks during a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe, as part of his official visit to attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.
The Chinese premier stressed the importance of increasing intelligence sharing, security coordination and law-enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
Beijing’s concerns over the activities of armed groups and the potential spread of insecurity from Afghanistan into Central Asia are among the key factors driving China’s efforts to strengthen security ties with Tajikistan.
China and Tajikistan have previously cooperated on border security. Beijing has also called for additional measures to protect its nationals and businesses in Tajikistan.
Beyond security issues, the two leaders discussed expanding economic cooperation in infrastructure development, mining, the digital economy and artificial intelligence.
