The Economist: Yemen War Traps MBS in His Worst Political Year

DID Press: Saudi Arabia has failed to contain and defeat Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement, while people close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman view his available options as unattractive, The Economist has reported.

According to the publication, continued fighting could disrupt bin Salman’s economic plans and turn the current year into one of the most difficult periods of his political career. The magazine noted that the most consequential decision facing the crown prince is tied to circumstances beyond his control.

The Economist also reported concerns among Saudi officials about the possibility of attacks on the kingdom from multiple fronts. It said Saudi Arabia has limited stocks of air-defence interceptor missiles available to counter incoming attacks.

Despite these challenges, the publication stressed that no significant change has taken place in Saudi Arabia’s governing structure. Riyadh’s foreign policy, it added, continues to rely on the United States as an essential and irreplaceable ally.
