Nearly $970,000 Allocated to Support Vulnerable Families in Bamyan

DID Press: Taliban’s National Disaster Management Authority has announced a $969,752 agreement with Global Social Services in Asia to support vulnerable families, create employment opportunities and reduce the risks posed by natural disasters in Afghanistan’s Bamyan province.

According to information released by the authority, cash assistance is planned for 2,500 vulnerable families in Bamyan. However, officials have not disclosed when the distributions will begin or how much each household will receive.

The programme will cover 14 villages across Yakawlang Districts 1 and 2, Saighan District and Bamyan city. Employment opportunities and disaster-risk reduction initiatives are also included in the agreement.

As part of the programme, disaster-risk awareness sessions are planned for 1,000 people. The agreement also provides for the establishment of 14 local disaster-risk reduction committees, which will be equipped with search-and-rescue equipment.

Despite the announcement of the agreement’s total value and the number of intended beneficiaries, the implementation timeline and the mechanism for distributing cash assistance remain unclear.
