Mohaqiq: Strait of Hormuz Is Iran’s Trench Against US, Israel

DID Press: Mohammad Mohaqiq, leader of Afghanistan’s Hezb-e Wahdat-e Islami Mardum, has compared Iran’s military confrontation with the United States and Israel and the ongoing developments around the Strait of Hormuz to the Battle of the Trench in early Islamic history.

In a post on social media, Mohaqiq wrote: “The Battle of the Trench; another trench war is on the way, once again with a Jewish army marching, but this time the trench is the Strait of Hormuz.”

Referring to the role of Salman al-Farsi in the Battle of the Trench and his proposal to dig a trench to defend Medina, Mohaqiq invoked the historical and religious narrative, adding that “Ali’s Zulfiqar” would once again work miracles after centuries.

His remarks come as tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to grow more complicated. Given the waterway’s strategic importance for global energy shipments and trade, any escalation in military tensions could have serious consequences for maritime security, energy markets and relations among regional and international powers.

By comparing the current situation to the Battle of the Trench, Mohaqiq has framed the confrontation through a historical and religious lens, portraying the Strait of Hormuz as a defensive line and a strategic lever for Iran.
