Karachi Port Auctions Hundreds of Containers Belonging to Afghan Traders
DID Press: Pakistan’s Karachi Port Customs has auctioned hundreds of containers carrying goods belonging to Afghan traders over unpaid taxes and mounting charges incurred while the shipments remained at the port.

Officials from Afghanistan’s Chamber of Commerce have described the move as contrary to regional and international trade regulations and expressed concern about its consequences for Afghan traders.
According to published reports, despite thousands of containers leaving Karachi Port earlier this year, hundreds of containers belonging to Afghan traders remain at the port.
Rising customs charges and delays in transporting shipments have created financial difficulties for Afghan traders. The auction of these goods could impose further losses on the owners of the consignments.
