Pakistan Warns Taliban of Possible Military Retaliation Over Cross-Border Attacks

DID Press: Pakistan’s Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, has warned that Islamabad reserves the right to take retaliatory military action if the Taliban authorities fail to prevent cross-border attacks and the activities of armed groups operating from Afghan territory.

The warning follows recent clashes in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan, in which two Pakistani soldiers and six members of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed, according to Pakistani authorities.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated that his government remains unwavering in its commitment to combating terrorism.

The increasingly tough rhetoric from Pakistani officials comes amid persistent security disputes that have repeatedly brought Kabul and Islamabad into military confrontation, making cross-border militancy one of the main sources of tension in relations between the two sides.

Pakistan’s latest warning could further heighten tensions and increase the risk of renewed clashes and cross-border attacks.
