Only 40% of Afghans Have Access to Electricity, Says Breshna
DID Press: Afghanistan’s national power utility, Breshna, says only around 40 percent of the country’s population has access to electricity, as two new power infrastructure projects have been inaugurated in eastern Nangarhar province.

Safiullah Ahmadzai, chief operating officer of Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), announced the figure during a ceremony marking the launch of the two projects.
Ahmadzai described the 40-megawatt Sheikh Mesri solar power plant and a 30-megawatt capacitor bank as important initiatives to improve and strengthen Nangarhar’s electricity network.
Meanwhile, the head of Afghanistan’s State-Owned Enterprises Administration said contracts for the production of 1,100 megawatts of electricity had been signed over the past year.
