Gen. Votel Discussed Bilateral Issues, Afghan Peace with Pakistani Officials

US delegation led by General Joseph L. Votel, Commander of the US CENTCOM met with Pakistan’s chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa as well as General Zubair Mahmood Hayat on Sunday, Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

During the meeting with Gen. Bajwa, Geo-strategic environment, regional security and Afghanistan peace and reconciliation process were discussed.

According to the statement, Pakistan’s COAS reiterated that peace in Afghanistan was vital for regional peace.

General Votel also met with General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee at Joint Staff Headquarters, Rawalpindi.

The visit comes as US Special Representative for Afghan Peace Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad completed Pakistan leg trip in the region to advance the peace process.

“We’re heading in the right direction with more steps by Pakistan coming that will lead to concrete results,” Khalilzad said.
