Amnesty International Condemns Plan to Livestream Nidal Hasan’s Execution
DID Press: Amnesty International has condemned the United States’ plan to livestream the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former U.S. Army psychiatrist convicted of carrying out the deadly 2009 shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, describing the move as “reprehensible” and raising concerns about human rights.

According to reports, Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3, 2026. The Pentagon has confirmed that the execution is expected to be livestreamed publicly.
Justin Mazzola, deputy director of research at Amnesty International USA, said broadcasting an execution would compound the cruelty of the death penalty and perpetuate the cycle of violence the authorities claim to be addressing. The organization maintains that public executions are incompatible with the prohibition on cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Hasan was convicted in 2013 of killing 13 people and injuring 32 others in the November 2009 shooting at the Texas military base. If carried out as scheduled, his execution would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961 and the first known execution by a U.S. military firing squad since 1945.
