Over 25 pc of Afghan Citizens Faced Discrimination: AIHRC
A new study by the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) which is assessing the implementation of ‘International Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination’ in Afghanistan revealed that 25.4 percent of Afghans were discriminated.

“The Commission has interviewed 3,498 citizens in 29 provinces, and 25.4 percent of them said they had experienced racial discrimination,” said the AIHRC chairperson Sima Samar during a press conference in Kabul on Monday about the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of racial discrimination in Afghanistan.
“Out of 3,000 and 498 interviews, 2,691 (58.9%) of them were men, and 1,405 (40.2%) of whom were women,” Ms Samar added.
Ms. Sima Samar further said that discrimination in any country causes violence, tensions, and ongoing conflict, and one of the reasons for the continuation of conflict and violence in Afghanistan, is the issue of discrimination.
“The findings of the commission show that 25.4 percent of the country’s citizens said they have faced discrimination. No matter at what level but they claimed that they faced discrimination,” Ms Samar noted.
However, she said that restrictions on the distribution of citizenship ID cards, restrictions on recruiting government employees, the imbalance implementation of development projects in the provinces, the unfair promotion of government employees, the exclusion of these employees from financial privilege, violation of the right to justice and lack of access to health and Educational services due to ethnic, linguistic and religious affiliations have been the subjects of the commission’s inquiry.
