Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani met his Kyrgyz counterpart in Bishkek on Thursday and discussed bilateral issues.
FM Salahuddin Rabbani in a joint press conference with his Kyrgyz counterpart said that on 19 April, Afghanistan will take part in the 3rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Contact Group on Afghanistan.
“This will be the first such meeting to be Co-Chaired by Afghanistan,” Sibghatullah Ahmadi, a spokesman to the Ministry of Foreign affairs twitted Thursday afternoon.
The 3rd meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and Afghanistan will be held in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek on April 19.
“I am confident that my visit will play an important role in strengthening relations and widening cooperation between Afghanistan and the Kyrgyz Republic,” said Salahuddin Rabbani.
“The people of Afghanistan and Central Asian are bound by a common geography, history and culture. On this basis, stability, security and prosperity in either one of our countries has direct impact on that of other countries,” Mr Rabbani added.
This comes as the Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Afghanistan with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon on Wednesday.
Speaking at a news conference following the meeting, the two leaders stressed the importance of the Afghan settlement for the stability in the region.
