Addressing a press conference in Kabul on Sunday evening, the presidential spokesman said that “a sustainable and honorable peace is important for Afghanistan”.

“The Afghan government stresses on timely elections and believes that lasting peace can be ensured only by a ceasefire and direct negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban,” he added after US President Donald Trump called off the talks with the Taliban.
“If the US-Taliban peace agreement was signed, there would be serious threats to Afghanistan. Any future peace path should have to be in accordance with the will of the Afghan people. Peace talks between the US and the Taliban had serious shortcomings,”

The spokesman underlined that Pakistan has not taken any practical steps for peace so far, and the Afghan government is firmly committed to securing a lasting peace.
He described the Taliban as a dangerous group for the region and world, stressing that their honeymoon in Qatar must end.
