Taliban’s Strange Aid to Hamas: Forced Withdrawals from Citizens’ Bank Accounts

DID Press: Taliban interim government launched a campaign to collect financial aid for Palestinian resistance groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

According to the report, a portion of the funds is being withdrawn forcibly from the bank accounts of Afghanistani citizens.

This measure, introduced amid Afghanistan’s ongoing economic hardships, has raised serious concerns regarding citizens’ rights and the transparency and legality of how financial resources are being used.

Independent Persian has also highlighted widespread criticism of this method of fundraising, calling it outside the bounds of conventional diplomatic and financial norms.

The report stresses that financial collections in support of Palestinian resistance groups have increased in recent months, suggesting that the Taliban’s caretaker government is attempting to position itself as a supporter of the Palestinian cause.

Given Afghanistan’s deteriorating economic and social conditions—and the urgent need of its people for financial assistance—this move by the Taliban has sparked questions about its humanitarian and social consequences, particularly at a time when Afghanistan population need humanitarian aid more than ever.
